We get it… It’s stressful and daunting for many people, working out what you’re going to say and getting that all-important engagement ring. Choosing the right place where you want it to all go down is almost as important as the wedding itself. I chanced upon an interesting quote in which I think it’s meaningful:

“The biggest moment of your life deserves a special place to commemorate it.”

If you’re planning a proposal and want to make sure that it’s everything your partner dreamed of, here are some of the world’s most amazing and romantic places we’ve compiled just for you. These destinations aren’t just the typical cliches but they are the places where you can make an everlasting memory and you could even come back some time to visit on your anniversaries.

1. SAKURA SEASON IN JAPAN

Cherry blossoms, also known as Sakura, are a symbolic flower of the spring, a time of renewal, and the fleeting nature of life. It is a spring time tradition of Japan which attracts thousands of visitors every year.

The blossom’s lifespan is very short as it can only last for around around two weeks (late March to early April). So, if you are intending to pop the question with these beautiful flowers as your background, you will need to find the right time.

So, the next question… where in Japan? Here are the list of places:

2. THE LOVE CITY IN PARIS, FRANCE

Known as “The City of Love“, Paris is certainly one of the most romantic city in the world. It might come as no surprise that it is also one of the most popular places to propose marriage, or be proposed to.

Paris, a cosmopolitan city, has a rich heritage of art galleries, old markets, theaters, architecture, fashion and history. From the infamous The Lourve Pyramid to the iconic Eiffel Tower, there are many places that you can plan for your marriage proposal. Here are some of the places we highly recommend:

3. HOT AIR BALLOON IN CAPPADOCIA, TURKEY

If there’s one thing that attracts the crowds in Cappadocia (even more than its landscapes), it is the hot air balloons! Imagine the Cappadocian sky is filled with hundreds of hot-air balloons at sunrise… I have to admit, it’s mesmerising! Proposing to your loved one in the sky is one of the most romantic ideas you can find. (Just remember to keep your ring safe and not to lose it at high altitude!)

If you (or your partner) are afraid of heights, there are actually various locations to propose in Cappadocia with the background image of all the hot air balloons up in the air! Here are some of the popular spots:

  • The hill above Göreme
  • The Love Valley
  • The Sword Valley
  • Rose Valley and Akdag Summit

The ideal time to propose is definitely early in the morning sunrise in order to see hundreds of hot air balloons. So, remember to set your alarm early!

Located in the northwestern Arizona, the cool red orange backdrop of the Grand Canyon is just awe inspiring, hailing it as one of the most beautiful spot for a wedding proposal.

Grand Canyon National Park is arguably big but packed with many tourists. So do take note if you are intending to go there. There are many iconic spots with incredible views, here are a few of our favourites.

5. UNDER THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

You couldn’t ask for a wedding proposal backdrop more jaw-dropping than this! But, this involves a lot on “luck” as weather plays a major role in determining the presence of this stunning light shows.

Aurora Borealis, also known as Northern Lights, is most commonly seen in the polar regions, within a radius of 2,500 km around the magnetic poles. It exist in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, but the northern part is more popular to catch a glimpse of the magnificent display. The best period is during the winter season in the Arctic from late September to late March / early April, where the sky is dark enough for the Northern Lights to be visible in the right conditions.

We strongly recommend you to prepare for a backup plan if you intending to do your wedding proposal there as there are chances that it might not appear throughout your stay there. Here are some of the popular places we recommend:

6. ISLANDS IN THE MALDIVES

Well known for its clear waters, white sandy beaches, and 5-star resorts, Maldives is a major tourist destination, as well as one of the popular places for wedding proposals. The island nation is made up of 1,190 islands spread over 35,000 square miles in the Indian Ocean.

There are various ways to do the wedding proposal:

  • Proposal on a sandbank
  • Proposal by the beach
  • Proposal on a sunset cruise
  • Proposal in underwater
  • Proposal at Bioluminescent Beach (Our recommended spot!)

Why Maldives? The Maldives are in danger of disappearing due to climate change and rising sea levels. The islands themselves only have an average ground level of 1.5 meters, meaning within the next century, they could sink below the ocean’s surface for good. We would think that it is a must go before it’s gone forever.

7. THE CITY OF DUBAI & ABU DHABI

Known for its sleek skyscrapers and the world’s tallest building, The United Arab Emirates (UAE) emerged as one of the popular travel destination for tourists, as well as for doing wedding proposals. This will be the perfect place if you want to splurge your money on doing the grandest wedding proposal ever.

Here are some of the most romantic spots to pop the question:

Setting foot on Venice is always a breathtaking experience! It is a unique place for a surprise proposal with great photography locations around the lagoon and many ancient buildings in Venice.

Why gondolas?
Gondolas allow you to see Venice from a completely different perspective and better appreciate how the city functions with canals instead of streets. It is an awe-inspiring experience!

Sit on the gondola and pass through the small water canals to view the picturesque canals of the stunning floating city. Wait for the perfect moment to arrive at the right place with the beautiful sun setting light and ask your partner to spend the rest of their lives with you with the proposal ring. Simply beautiful!

9. NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE IN BAVARIA, GERMANY

Do you know that Neuschwanstein castle is a fairy tale-like castle in the German Alps that inspired Walt Disney to create Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland?

It is hence one of the most popular wedding prospsal locations in the world. Situated at Bavaria Germany, its white limestone façade and deep blue turrets creates a lovely and romantic background scene for your proposal. What we love about this place is that the place looks spectecular in all 4 seasons! So, you can actually visit any day (as long as it is not raining!).

Our recommendation to do the proposal is at Marienbrücke, the bridge which hangs over a waterfall and offers the most iconic views of Neuschwanstein. However, do take note of the large crowd crowding around the bridge!
